PROSHAPE Paint Protection Film

In some areas the material doesn’t seem to adhere to the paint. The film doesn’t seem to stick there. Why is this?

You have forgotten to thoroughly remove all traces of wax, grease or dirt before applying the film.

The product doesn’t seem to fit properly in my opinion. It seems far too small. Is that possible?

Depending on where you are applying the product, some pieces of film will have to be stretched in order to cover the surface. This makes it easier to even out the section on the surface or to leave room to pull leftover material round corners. The following analogy may help you better understand the application of the film to curved surfaces: Imagine that you have to gift wrap a football. That wouldn’t be possible without creases, no? Now imagine covering the ball with clingfilm instead – that works. Thanks to its stretchability, the paint protection film can take the shape of almost anything you want it to stick it to. So don’t be afraid to stretch the material. For certain areas stretching is essential for proper application.

I applied the paint protection film using the wet application technique, but for some reason the edges won’t stick properly. What am I doing wrong?

Wrap the squeegee provided in a dry cotton cloth and smooth over the edges again. The paper towel absorbs the application fluid as it leaks out and therefore improves the film’s adhesiveness. Repeat this procedure as necessary. If this does not result in the desired level of success, use a hairdryer. Firstly, the warmth causes the excess water under the edges to evaporate, and secondly, the paint protection film becomes more flexible. However, be careful when using a hairdryer. Only very little warmth is required and if the film is overheated, the surface of the material may be damaged.

There are little bubbles of application fluid under the material. What should I do?

Don’t worry if small bubbles of fluid appear during application. The moisture evaporates over time and the mark cannot be noticed. However, trapped air, larger pockets and bags of application fluid or dirt particles must be removed. In general, it is also necessary to remove the film in the affected area. In order to be able to react quickly, constantly check while you are applying the film for bubbles or trapped particles.

I want to apply the film myself, but I don’t really understand the application instructions. What can I do?

Take a look at our application diagramms too. They give useful information on the individual application steps and techniques. They are a good addition to the application instructions.

Is the film very noticeable?

Almost not at all! The film is 100% transparent and clear, in other words not yellow-tinged or anything like that. As the film is very thin, the sides or edges can only be seen close up. From a distance of approx. 1.20m nothing can be seen at all. This, however, varies depending on the colour of the paint and the way the light falls. The darker the colour the more noticeble the film is, yet even on a black tank the film is barely visible.

Is the film UV resistant?

Yes, the film has excellent weather and UV-resistant properties.

Can I remove the film without leaving traces?

The film can be removed without leaving any traces. It’s easier if you use a hairdryer to gently warm the film. Any remaining traces of adhesive can be removed with spirit. This will not harm the paint.

Can I remove the protective film after applying it and reuse it?

If necessary, the paint protection film can be carefully peeled off and repositioned. If you wish to remove the material again, this must be done within approx. 10 minutes of reapplication (depending on factors such as room temperature). Any later and the film may be extremely stretched as you pull it off and hang over the edge when it is reapplied.

How long does the film last?

The film has a lifespan of 5-7 years. Scratches and damage already on the paint before application of the film are visible through the film after some time however. Of course, the film is also affected by strain placed on the vehicle by the driver and mileage. The time to take off the film therefore depends on various factors. Incidentally, the film can also be treated with standard paint polish.

How can the film be applied without creases and bubbles?

The film is applied using a wet adhesive process. This does not allow bubbles to form. In order to make proper application even easier, every set contains detailed application instructions with helpful tips and a special application squeegee.
